Palace of Auburn Hills Information
The Palace of Auburn Hills is located in Michigan's Detroit suburb of Auburn Hills. Fittingly named, this venue has been host to a variety of events since it's completion in 1988. Home to the NBA's Detroit Pistons and the WNBA's Detroit Shock, The Palace of Auburn Hills has also been home to previous teams from IHL, AFL and others.
The Pistons found themselves without a permanent home, that is - until the Palace of Auburn Hills opened. The team competed in various stadiums and arenas from 1957 through 1978. It was in 1978 that the team was relocated to the Pontiac Silverdome, which is where they remained for the next 10 years. The Silverdome had the ability to accommodate an impressive number of fans, but offered less in the way of sightlines for basketball competitions. Bill Davidson led a group to construct the Palace at a cost of $70 million, which was all obtained by way of private funding.
The Palace of Auburn Hills features a seating capacity of over 22,000 for basketball and even higher for other events. It's location in the suburb has made this facility popular among concert goers, as well as professional boxing competitions. Featuring 180 luxury suites, the Palace plans to add even more in the future. It's design is so modern that it has been used as inspiration for the development of other North American arenas. The major difference being that most sports and entertainment facilities are built in the city while the Palace remains nestled in the Michigan suburb of Auburn Hills.
In addition to the NBA's Detroit Pistons and the WNBA's Detroit Shock, the Palace is a gathering place for wrestling, music concerts, ice shows and competitions, rodeos, family shows and other special events. Fans can shop for a variety of officially licensed apparel, collectibles and other souvenirs before, during and after an event.
Among the dining amenities at the Palace of Auburn Hills, fans will enjoy The Palace Grille located near the East Entrance on the Club level, the restaurant is quickly accessible from any seat in the house. The Captain's Quarters, another fine dining option, features a full-service bar and is home to 'Piston's Perspective.' The Palace Club features elegant seating and is ideal for banquet gatherings. Luxury suite holders will enjoy dining via special catering services available, which features a versatile menu.
